Buckner Park
Buckner Park
2008
The Buckner Park restoration plan is a $3M project, funded in part by the Parks and Recreation Department bond program of 1998. Significant additional funding is needed to bring the vision of the Buckner Park restoration to reality. Located at Worth and Carroll streets, historic Buckner Park is situated at an important gateway intersection linking Old East Dallas with Downtown, Fair Park, and Deep Ellum.
Poised to be transformed into an entertainment and family life anchor for the redevelopment of the area, Buckner Park serves some 2,000 homes and businesses in four adjacent historic districts and established neighborhoods. The completion of this project is destined to spur significant economic growth in our neighborhood, benefit local schools and improve the quality of life for all our citizens.
Buckner Park is named for Dr. Buckner, a major philanthropist and historic figure in East Dallas. The original home of Dr. Buckner was on the corner of Junius and Haskell. Buckner Park has been enjoyed by residents of the neighborhood for over a century. George Kessler, the famous planner who designed the Kessler Park neighborhood, developed the original master plan for Buckner Park.
